On December 6, 2021, Jason Wilhelm and Kevin James Wilhelm were killed during a domestic dispute. Evidence at the scene indicates that when a neighbor named Fredrick Holmes began to attack his fiancée, she fled to the home of Jason and his 7-year-old son KJ for help. Fredrick followed her there and shot all three of them. According to his family, Jason "died heroically trying to protect his son and his neighbor, selflessly placing himself between them and her assailant."
