On January 14, 2021, Victoria Rose Smith was beaten to death. Ariel Robinson, who was an aspiring stand-up comedian, along with her husband Jerry Robinson, had been acting as foster parents to Victoria and her brothers. While Ariel initially tried to blame one of Victoria's brothers for the abuse, Jerry admitted that his wife had beaten the 3-year-old several times before, using a belt and other objects. On this final day of Victoria's life, after seeing the girl's body, he told Ariel "you've gone too far" and called 911. When paramedics arrived, they found Victoria covered in deep bruises. She died of "multiple blunt force injuries," according to the coroner.
