A mother and her young daughter visit Paris on an ocean liner from New England during the 1st world fair 1867, the place of the mother's upbringing. They find it hard to find accommodations due to many visitors from all over the world being in town. The place is a joyous frenzy, and mysterious, inexplicable events ensue.
